About this coffee
Huakui, the name for 'China Beauty', is more than a coffee. It is a ten-year journey rooted in curiosity, persistence, and a belief that great specialty coffee can be both exceptional and accessible.
The story began in Ethiopia in 2016, when Chinese specialty coffee was still in its infancy. While the world chased famous names, they discovered an overlooked competition-winning lot from a small Ethiopian producer, DW Company. With no hype and no guarantees, they committed to 200 bags of extraordinary coffee. Floral, fruity, and elegant, it became the seed of the 'China Beauty' lot.
Over the years, Huakui evolved from a single lucky lot into a fully traceable, carefully crafted coffee. Producer Xiaoxiao and their team worked from cherry to cup—mapping terroirs, refining processing, and building a consistent flavor profile designed for Chinese and Asian palates: delicate florals, vibrant fruit, and a lingering, umami-like sweetness.
Huakui gained recognition on competition stages and later proved something rare in specialty coffee: scale without compromise. From cafés to millions of cups nationwide, it showed that “mass specialty” is possible when quality and intention come first.
The road was not easy for them. Global disruptions, supply pressure, and hard choices forced them to slow down, cut volumes, and return to their original values. In doing so, we preserved what matters most: integrity, transparency, and taste.
This 10th Anniversar of Buku Abel's 'China Beauty' X Series returns to the spirit of the very first harvest. It is a tribute to Ethiopian land, to the people behind the coffee, and to everyone who believes that some things are worth a decade of commitment.
At Bitterzoet Coffee Roasters, we are very delighted to serve you this special lot. Our first Ethiopan coffee and the first year this special profile finds Europe due to YD selects. Find a natural processed coffee what taste like a washed Ethiopian, with goose berry, black tea and stonefruit.
