Costa Rica Las Mercedes

We had the chance to acquire a small lot from Finca Las Mercedes. It has been an extraordinary cup with vibrant tropical fruit notes and complex acidity. Inspired by the finca’s name, Las Mercedes, we asked illustrator Joosje Bosch to design a special edition for this coffee.

Finca Las Mercedes is run by the Gamboa family. They have owned the land since 1920, and the third generation is now dedicating their work and effort to honoring the legacy of their great-grandfather, Antolin Gamboa, and their great-grandmother, Mercedes. They origninally established the farm as a sustenance agriculture and dairy farm.

Around 60 years ago, they began producing coffee on the land, and for the past 10 years, they have also cultivated avocados. Today, around 60% of the farm’s income comes from avocados. The farm is mainly led by women and remains a family project.
